They Came in Ships

One of the most interesting parts of genealogical research is tracking down the ships our relatives sailed on to make the trip from Europe to America. In addition, Dave and Regina Orans traveled to Europe several times in the 1920's and 1930's. Information on most of the family has been confirmed by actual Passenger manifests with the help of a professional genealogist and the Ellis Island database. At this point, data on all of the original Orans and Rjawsky families have been identified with the exception of my great-uncle Lou Orans.

	Anna Orans, wife of Louis Orans, arrived in New York from Cherbourg, France on the Kaiser Wilhelm II on January 17, 1906
	Morris Orans sailed from Bremen to New York on the North German Lloyd ship S. S. Main arriving  October, 1906.
	The Rjawsky family made their initial trip to America from Boulogne, France in May 1907 on the S. S. Statendam of the Holland America Line.
	David Orans (Arans in the Ship's Manifest) traveled to the United States in 1909 on the S. S. Philadelphia of the American Line.
	Regina and Ury (Yuri in the Ship's Manifest) Orans traveled on the S.S. Wilhelm der Grosse of North German Lloyd from Cherbourg, France, arriving in New York on March 2, 1910
	Clara Orans made her trip to America with daughter Fonia and son Emil,  in 1911 on the S. S. Finland of the Red Star Line.
	The Rjawsky Family sailed from Antwerp to New York on their return from Vilna on the S. S. Lapland of the Red Star Line on September 14, 1922
	Dave, Regina and sons, Ury and Edwin, returned to Europe to visit the family during the summer of 1923. They traveled on the S. S. Leviathan of the United States Lines.
	S.S. Alfred Ballin of  the Hamburg America Line   arrives in New York. Dave traveled to Europe on the Alfred Ballin  in 1927.
	RMS Mauretania, Queen of the Atlantic run for many years. Mauretania carried Dave Orans to Europe in the Twenties.
	Regina Orans crossed to Europe on the M.S. Pilsudski of the Polish Gdynia America Line for visit to family in Sosnowiec, Poland in 1935.
	Louis Orans traveled to New York on board the S. S. ---------- of the ----- Line on  ------, 19--. Researching.
	"On Deck-North German Lloyd" Watercolor painted on a Trans-Atlantic Crossing by Dave Orans. Dave made frequent trips to Europe in the 1920's and early 1930's. Several were on ships of North German Lloyd Lines.
